In Israel, Hannukah is a very calm, nice holiday. Not hugely commercialized, but an opportunity to spend time with family and friends, light candles and eat fried food, especially Israeli-style sufganiot (a.k.a. jelly doughnuts) (which BTW taste nothing like Dunkin’s). Hannukah gets blown out of proportion in the US; retailers need to make the most out of it. Having spent the last 6 Hannukah’s in the states, it’s quite refreshing to not worry about buying gifts for everybody. We have enough “stuff” as it is….
Happy Hannukah!
