Awhile ago, a NikeWomen catalog appeared in the mail. Typically, this stuff goes straight to the recycle bin. This time, something urged me to peek inside. Was it the "cool" nature of the look-and-feel or the feeling of guilt for not having gone to the gym often enough during Cocktail season?
Before long, I found myself on the NikeWomen website clicking away, adding things to the shopping cart (-- it doesn't mean I actually have to BUY them). Then I discovered something called NikeID. Basically, NikeID lets you personalize items such as footwear, apparel and some equipment.
Still playing around, I selected a pair of running shoes (Nike Free 5.0id) that had lots of options, and started to design my own. The very slick user interface invited me to select the color of the base, swoosh, swoosh border, laces, midsole, etc., from a great palate of colors including clementine, varsity red, chartreuse, lymon, blue sapphire, etc. I was so excited. Click, click, click and see what happened $95 and three weeks later...

Cool shoes! When my current pear of Nike's wear out, I might try getting myself a cutomised pair too :-)
